Letter : to [Henry W. Garlington], 1863 Dec. 12.

Letter in pencil attributed to Henry Laurens Garlington at a "Camp near Rodgersville, Tenn." to his father. Garlington recounts how the Confederate forces came close to capturing General Burnside and his army at Knoxville, "but owing to a heavy force which came up in our rear we were compelled to leave." Garlington also reports that he has been unwell recently and requests an overcoat.

Confederate Army officer. The son of Henry W. Garlington of South Carolina, he entered Confederate service in the 3rd South Carolina Regiment.
